Insomnia and Sleep Disorders

Insomnia is a common sleep disorder worldwide. Individuals suffering from insomnia may have difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, wake up too early or difficulty falling back to sleep after waking up too early. Insomnia can also affect an individual’s ability to get good, quality sleep, decrease energy level during the day and impact overall mood in a negative way. Insomnia can be caused by many things, such as underlying mental health condition, side effects of medications, other sleep-related conditions such as sleep apnea or excessive caffeine, nicotine, or alcohol consumption.
Symptoms of insomnia may last for days to weeks (acute insomnia) or may be present for months to years (chronic insomnia). Insomnia may be associated with other mental health conditions. If insomnia is having a negative impact on your ability to function during the day, speak with a mental health professional to identify possible cause of insomnia and find the right treatment plan for you.
