Substance abuse and other addiction related disorders

Substance abuse is a serious problem that is characterized by an excessive use of drugs or alcohol, leading to physical, mental, and social consequences. Individuals suffering from addiction have a physical and/or psychological dependence to alcohol or other drugs. Other forms of addiction include but are not limited to sexual and gambling addictions.
There is help available. A mental health professional can work with individuals to design a treatment which addresses the underlying cause of substance abuse and other types of addiction and help achieve long-term sobriety. Psychotherapy can help with developing healthy coping mechanisms, build self-esteem and reduce stress level which are often triggers for drug, alcohol, and other types of addiction.
